UMO was named a College of Distinction to honor excellence and dedication to student-focused higher education.  UMO was found to excel in all four Distinctions (engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes).

Military Friendly School

Victory Media designated UMO as a leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds.  This designation is reserved for the top 15% of colleges and universities that embrace military students.

Top 25 Ranking in 2019 US News & World Report Regional Colleges

US News and World Report has ranked UMO in the top 25 best regional colleges.  The schools included in the ranking offer a broad range of programs in the liberal arts and offer mainly undergraduate degrees.


US News & World Report 2019 Best Colleges for Veterans

UMO was ranked as the 10th Best College for Veterans in the south by US News & World Report.  Institutions included in the rankings are certified to offer the GI Bill, participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, must have enrolled a minimum of 20 veterans and active service members in the previous academic year, and must be in the top half of its US News ranking category.


#6 Best Bang for the Buck

UMO earned a ranking of sixth in the Southeast colleges division of Washington Monthly’s “Best Bang for the Buck” 2017 list.  The list recognizes institutions “in America that do the best job of helping non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices,” according to the magazine’s editors.


Business and Education Programs Receive Distinctions

The Colleges of Distinction team has recognized UMO’s Business and Education programs for their innovative leadership in higher education.  They site UMO as not only engaging competent future employees in Business and Education, but also for inspiring them to be critical thinkers with unique, well-rounded insight.
